- BIOGRAPHY -
Steve G. Cannon began his insurance career in 1970. He later opted to become an independent producer in order to bring the highest quality products and services to his clients.
In 1978, he founded Savannah Insurance Agency with two partners, Travis Barlow and DeWayne Hamilton. The agency specialized in auto, home, life and health insurance. Travis went on to own the largest dump truck agency in the United States, while DeWayne served for 10 years in the Georgia House of Representatives and several years on the Chatham County School board. After two years, Steve sold his interest to his partners to seek new challenges and formed Southern Insurance Brokers with a partner to hire brokers to sell various life and health insurance products, primarily group health. In 1980, Steve became a registered representative as well as a Licensed Insurance Counselor, a title he still holds. He acquired the designation of Registered Investment Advisor in 1995, which allowed him to charge for investment advice.
After a dismal stock market from 2000-2003, Steve changed his practice to concentrate on Index Annuities, whose gains are tied to the stock market with never a chance of loss. As he and his clients aged, he found more and more people who simply did not want to risk their dollars any further. Judging from the pathetic record of the Standard and Poors stock index since 2000, it was a wise choice Steve made with his own money safe, as well as his clients' money safe. None of his clients suffered losses during the severe downturn of 2000-2003, nor from 2007-2008. What a comfort he and his clients enjoy now, since they will never lose money again!
Steve has developed a specialty in working with retirees and those about to retire in guaranteeing lifetime incomes for his clients, while protecting their principal. He has conducted financial and retirement planning workshops for employees of the US Army Corps of Engineers and has counseled employees from IBM, Gulfstream, Stone Container, Memorial Medical Center, and International Paper. Steve has conducted retirement planning workshops at Savannah Vo-Tech. He is widely recognized as one of the foremost and knowledgeable authorities on the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia, and numbers hundreds of teachers as clients.
Steve and his wife, Debbie, live in Eden, GA. His hobbies, when he's not making people richer, are deep sea fishing in Mexico, traveling and swimming
